The Grand East African Safari

From Kenya's Wild North to Tanzania's Endless Plains

This is a safari for travellers who want to experience East Africa in depth rather than selecting only one or two famous parks. Eighteen days reveal dramatically different ecosystems, wildlife communities and landscapes across Kenya and Tanzania.

Begin by travelling north from Nairobi into Samburu, a rugged and beautiful wilderness associated with wildlife species rarely seen on Kenya's southern safari circuit. Continue to Ol Pejeta, one of Kenya's most important conservation landscapes, before entering the forested Aberdare highlands.

The Great Rift Valley then leads south through Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha before three nights in the Maasai Mara provide the time required to properly experience Kenya's most celebrated savannah ecosystem.

From the Mara, continue to Amboseli beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. After two nights in Kenya's elephant country, cross into Tanzania for Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire.

Seventeen nights. Two countries. From Samburu's wild north to the Mara–Serengeti ecosystem and the volcanic landscapes of Ngorongoro — this is East Africa on a grand scale.
Signature Experiences

One Journey Through East Africa's Great Wildlife Landscapes

Designed around diversity, wildlife depth and sufficient time in the destinations that deserve more than a single night.

01 Northern Kenya

Discover Samburu's rugged landscapes and distinctive wildlife before visiting the conservation success story of Ol Pejeta and the forested Aberdare highlands.

02 Great Rift Valley

Experience Lake Nakuru's rhino country and the freshwater landscapes of Lake Naivasha before continuing toward the Maasai Mara.

03 Mara & Serengeti

Spend three nights in Maasai Mara and three nights in Serengeti, giving both sides of this immense transboundary ecosystem the time they deserve.

04 Kilimanjaro to Ngorongoro

Encounter Amboseli's elephants beneath Kilimanjaro before crossing into Tanzania for Manyara, Ngorongoro and Tarangire.

Flagship Kenya–Tanzania Safari

More Than a Checklist of National Parks

A long safari becomes truly rewarding when additional days create depth rather than simply adding destinations. This itinerary gives both Maasai Mara and Serengeti three nights and Amboseli and Samburu two nights each.

The result is a journey that combines East Africa's headline destinations with quieter conservation areas, forests, lakes, mountains and semi-arid northern wilderness.

Day01

Nairobi → Samburu

Central Highlands · Northern Frontier · First Game Drive

Meet your professional safari driver-guide in Nairobi and begin your grand East African journey north through Kenya's central highlands toward Samburu.

The landscape becomes increasingly dry and dramatic as you approach the northern frontier. Enter the Samburu ecosystem and enjoy your first game drive en route to your lodge or tented camp.

Begin searching for elephants, lions, leopards and northern specialities such as Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and gerenuk.

The Ewaso Nyiro River provides an important lifeline through this otherwise dry landscape and attracts wildlife to its riverine habitat.

Overnight: Samburu
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day03

Samburu → Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Laikipia · Conservation · Rhino Country

After breakfast, leave Samburu and travel south toward the Laikipia Plateau and Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Day04

Ol Pejeta → Aberdare Highlands

Mountain Forest · Waterfalls · Highland Wildlife

Depending on your confirmed package, optional activities such as a boat excursion or additional nature experiences may be arranged.

Overnight: Lake Naivasha
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner according to your package.
Day07

Lake Naivasha → Maasai Mara

Great Rift Valley · Savannah · Afternoon Safari

After breakfast, continue toward the Maasai Mara, one of Africa's most celebrated wildlife destinations.

Day08

Full-Day Maasai Mara Safari

Dedicate the day to private game viewing across the Maasai Mara. With no transfer required, your driver-guide can concentrate on wildlife activity and recent sightings.

The Mara is particularly celebrated for its predators and supports lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas alongside elephants, buffalo, giraffes and abundant herbivores.

During migration periods, wildebeest and zebra may move through the ecosystem in enormous numbers, although exact movements and river crossings are natural events and cannot be guaranteed.

Overnight: Maasai Mara
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day09

Second Full Day in Maasai Mara

Extended Wildlife Viewing · Optional Balloon Safari

A third night in the Mara allows another complete day to explore different areas of the ecosystem and spend longer at exceptional sightings.

Your private safari format allows the day's game-drive plan to be adapted according to wildlife movements, seasonal conditions and your particular interests.

An optional hot-air balloon safari may be arranged in advance at additional cost, subject to availability and operating conditions.

Overnight: Maasai Mara
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day10

Maasai Mara → Amboseli

Across Southern Kenya · Kilimanjaro Country

Leave the Mara after breakfast and begin the journey across southern Kenya toward Amboseli National Park.

This is one of the longer transfer days of the grand itinerary, linking Kenya's famous western savannah with the elephant country beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.

Arrive in the Amboseli area and settle into your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Amboseli
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner according to your confirmed arrangements.
Day11

Full-Day Amboseli Safari

Elephants · Kilimanjaro · Wetlands

Search also for lions, cheetahs, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, hippos and abundant birdlife.

When cloud conditions permit, Mount Kilimanjaro creates a spectacular backdrop to the wildlife below.

Overnight: Amboseli
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day12

Amboseli → Tanzania → Lake Manyara

International Border · Arusha · Great Rift Valley

After breakfast, leave Amboseli and travel to the Kenya–Tanzania border for the international crossing.

Continue via the Arusha region toward Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley.

Overnight: Lake Manyara / Karatu area
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner according to your package.
Day13

Lake Manyara → Serengeti

Rift Valley · Ngorongoro Highlands · Endless Plains

Explore Lake Manyara's varied habitats, where groundwater forest, wetlands and open country support elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, primates and rich birdlife.

Enter the legendary plains and enjoy game viewing en route to your selected lodge or tented camp.

Overnight: Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day14

Full-Day Serengeti Safari

Overnight: Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day15

Second Full Day in Serengeti

Three-Night Serengeti Experience · Optional Balloon

An optional hot-air balloon safari can be arranged at additional cost, subject to availability.

Overnight: Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day16

Serengeti → Ngorongoro
