Five Days Across Southern Kenya's Wildlife Country

This five-day private safari transforms the journey from Diani Beach to Nairobi into an extensive wildlife adventure through four contrasting conservation areas.

Your journey begins in Tsavo East National Park, a vast wilderness renowned for its open landscapes, red soil and impressive elephant population. From here, the safari moves into Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and the distinctive Salt Lick safari environment.

The Taita Hills stage creates a very different safari experience. The sanctuary supports a wide variety of wildlife and offers excellent opportunities for game viewing within an important conservation area linked to the greater Tsavo ecosystem.

Salt Lick Safari Lodge is itself one of the highlights. The lodge is raised above the landscape on stilts, with elevated walkways connecting its accommodation structures and waterholes attracting wildlife close to the property.

From Taita Hills, your journey continues to Tsavo West National Park. The landscape becomes more rugged and volcanic, creating a strong contrast with the open red-earth country experienced in Tsavo East.

Your Tsavo West programme includes an afternoon game drive and a visit to the Rhino Sanctuary. Rhinos are naturally elusive, so sightings cannot be guaranteed, but the sanctuary adds another fascinating dimension to the safari.

The following morning you continue through Tsavo West toward Mzima Springs, where fresh underground water creates a lush habitat within the otherwise dry environment.

Hippos and crocodiles may be encountered around the springs before you continue toward Chyulu Gate and the remarkable Shetani Lava landscape.

The safari then continues to Amboseli National Park. Famous for its elephant herds and wetlands, Amboseli also provides some of Kenya's most celebrated views toward Mount Kilimanjaro when cloud conditions are favourable.

After an evening and final early morning game drive in Amboseli, the journey continues directly to Nairobi, where lunch and your final hotel or airport transfer complete the safari.

Four wildlife areas, five days and a seamless journey from Diani Beach to Nairobi—combining Tsavo's wilderness, Salt Lick, Mzima Springs, rhino country and Amboseli's elephants.

Detailed 5 Days Diani Beach to Nairobi Safari Itinerary

Explore Tsavo East, Taita Hills, Tsavo West and Amboseli before completing your private safari directly in Nairobi.

Day01

Diani Beach → Tsavo East National Park

Bachuma Gate · Wildlife Viewing · Afternoon Game Drive

Your five-day safari begins with collection from the hotel or resort of your stay in Diani Beach. Meet your professional driver-guide and settle into your private 4x4 Safari Land Cruiser for the journey toward Tsavo East National Park.

As you leave the Indian Ocean coast, the tropical scenery gradually changes into the drier landscapes of Kenya's interior.

Travel toward Bachuma Gate, where you enter Tsavo East National Park and immediately begin your first game-viewing drive.

Tsavo East forms part of the immense Tsavo ecosystem and offers a sense of scale and wilderness that makes it one of Kenya's classic safari destinations.

Your driver-guide searches for lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo and the many other species inhabiting the park.

Tsavo's elephants are particularly famous because they often cover themselves with the park's iron-rich red soil, creating their characteristic reddish appearance.

Continue game viewing as you make your way toward your booked safari camp or lodge.

Arrive for lunch and check in. Enjoy some time to rest during the warmer middle part of the day.

Later, depart for an afternoon game-viewing drive through Tsavo East. Your guide will select the route according to wildlife movements and local conditions.

The afternoon provides further opportunities to encounter elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebra, antelopes and predators.

As evening approaches, return to your confirmed camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 1: Lunch and dinner. Overnight at your booked safari camp or lodge in Tsavo East National Park.
Day02

Tsavo East → Taita Hills / Salt Lick

Early Game Drive · Wildlife Sanctuary · Salt Lick Experience

Wake early and depart for a morning game drive in Tsavo East before breakfast.

The cooler early hours can provide excellent wildlife activity and give you another opportunity to explore the park before continuing to your next destination.

Return to your accommodation for breakfast before checking out and beginning the journey through the greater Tsavo ecosystem toward Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.

On arrival in the sanctuary, begin game viewing as you travel through the protected landscape.

Taita Hills provides a more intimate wildlife experience than the immense national park you have just left while remaining part of an important wildlife area connected to Tsavo.

The sanctuary supports elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebra, antelopes and predators as well as numerous bird species.

Continue toward your confirmed Taita Hills or Salt Lick accommodation.

Salt Lick Safari Lodge is particularly distinctive. Its accommodation structures are elevated on stilts above the landscape and connected by open-air walkways.

The design was created with wildlife viewing in mind, allowing guests to look across the sanctuary and observe animals approaching the waterholes surrounding the lodge.

This can create memorable close-range wildlife encounters without even leaving the property.

Spend the remainder of the day enjoying the sanctuary and its wildlife before dinner.

After sunset, wildlife may continue visiting the lodge's waterholes, extending the safari atmosphere well beyond the formal game drive.

Day 2: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner and overnight at your booked Taita Hills or Salt Lick safari lodge.
Day03

Taita Hills / Salt Lick → Tsavo West National Park

Game Drive En Route · Rhino Sanctuary · Tsavo West Wildlife

After breakfast, leave Taita Hills and begin the journey toward Tsavo West National Park.

Game viewing continues en route as you transition from the private sanctuary into another of Kenya's great national parks.

The scenery changes noticeably as you enter Tsavo West. This side of the Tsavo ecosystem is characterised by more rugged terrain, volcanic features and areas of denser vegetation.

Continue toward your agreed safari lodge or camp, arriving in time for lunch.

After lunch, enjoy time to relax before departing again for your afternoon game drive.

The afternoon programme includes a visit to the Rhino Sanctuary. This protected area provides an opportunity to search for rhinos, although sightings depend entirely on natural wildlife movements.

Rhinos can be shy and difficult to locate, making any successful sighting particularly rewarding.

Your driver-guide will also search for elephants, lions, zebra, buffalo and other animals found within Tsavo West.

The park is also home to an impressive variety of birdlife, including both resident and migratory species.

Continue exploring the park during the afternoon as the light begins to soften and temperatures fall.

Return to your agreed lodge or camp for dinner and overnight surrounded by the Tsavo West wilderness.

Day 3: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight at your agreed safari lodge or camp in Tsavo West National Park.
Day04

Tsavo West → Amboseli National Park

Mzima Springs · Shetani Lava · Evening Amboseli Game Drive

Begin the day with an early breakfast before departing your Tsavo West accommodation.

Enjoy game viewing en route as you travel through the park toward Mzima Springs.

Mzima Springs is one of Tsavo West's best-known natural attractions. Fresh underground water emerges into a lush environment that contrasts dramatically with the surrounding dry landscape.

The spring system produces an enormous volume of fresh water and supports an important aquatic habitat.

The area provides an opportunity to search for hippos and crocodiles, although wildlife sightings remain subject to natural movements.

After exploring the Mzima Springs area, continue toward Chyulu Gate and prepare to leave Tsavo West.

Your journey includes a stop at the Shetani Lava area, where the dark volcanic landscape provides a dramatic reminder of the geological forces that shaped this region.

Take time for photographs before continuing toward Amboseli National Park.

Travel to Kimana Gate and enter the Amboseli ecosystem.

Continue toward your confirmed camp or lodge for check-in and lunch.

Later in the afternoon, depart for an evening game drive through Amboseli National Park until approximately 6:30 PM.

Amboseli is internationally renowned for its elephant population, including large family groups that can often be observed crossing the open plains or feeding around the wetlands.

Your guide also searches for buffalo, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, gazelles, lions, hyenas and other wildlife.

When weather conditions are favourable, Mount Kilimanjaro rises above the landscape and creates one of Africa's most celebrated safari backdrops.

Because cloud conditions change naturally, clear views of Kilimanjaro cannot be guaranteed.

Return to your camp or lodge after the evening game drive for dinner and your final safari night.

Day 4: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight at your confirmed camp or lodge in Amboseli National Park.
Day05

Amboseli National Park → Nairobi

Early Morning Game Drive · Nairobi Lunch · Hotel or Airport

Wake early for your final game drive in Amboseli National Park. The cooler morning hours provide another opportunity to search for elephants, predators and plains wildlife.

Early morning can also provide favourable conditions for views of Mount Kilimanjaro, although visibility remains dependent on the weather.

Enjoy your final wildlife experience before returning to your accommodation for breakfast.

After breakfast, check out and leave Amboseli for the road journey to Nairobi.

The journey completes an extraordinary progression across southern Kenya—from the red landscapes of Tsavo East and the wildlife waterholes of Taita Hills to Tsavo West's volcanic wilderness and the elephant country of Amboseli.

Continue toward Nairobi, with your arrival time dependent on road and traffic conditions.

On reaching Nairobi, enjoy your included final-day lunch.

The original safari programme provides lunch at Nairobi's Carnivore Restaurant before the final transfer.

After lunch, your professional driver-guide transfers you to your respective Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, according to your confirmed travel arrangements.

This makes the safari particularly convenient for travellers finishing a Diani Beach holiday and continuing directly to Nairobi rather than returning to the coast after their safari.

Your private five-day Diani Beach to Nairobi safari concludes after drop-off, leaving you with experiences from four very different wildlife destinations across southern Kenya.

Day 5: Breakfast and lunch. Final drop-off at your confirmed Nairobi hotel or airport.
